Pinterest Pin API for Developers

Create image, carousel and video Pins from one REST API or MCP server. Pick a default board per account, or name the board on each post.

Business or Personal Accounts

Users connect through Pinterest's own consent screen. Business and personal accounts both work.

Boards

Each account has a default board, picked at connect when there is only one, or later in the API or the dashboard. Any post can name another board.

Image, Carousel and Video Pins

Send one image, a carousel of 2 to 5 images, or one video. Ampost uploads the video and waits until Pinterest has processed it.

Title, Link and Alt Text

The post text is the Pin description, linkUrl is where the Pin leads, and each image's alt text goes with it. Set a title in options.pinterest.

Edit and Delete

Change the description of a published Pin or delete it, with the same endpoints as every other platform.

Same Model as Every Platform

Send the same images to Pinterest, Instagram, Threads and the rest with one request and schedule them for later.

Why this page exists

Pinterest next to the rest of your publishing

The Pinterest API wants a board for every Pin, registers and processes videos before a Pin can use them, and has its own limits on bursts of Pins.

Ampost handles that once. Pinterest becomes one more platform in the same request you already send to Instagram, Threads or X.

Use cases

E-commerce and catalogs

Pin product photos with a link to the product page, on the board that fits each product.

Content and blog distribution

Pin each new article with its cover image and link at the same time as your other social posts.

AI agents

Let an agent create Pins through MCP, list the user's boards and pick the right one.

Create a Pin in one API call

Connect an account once, then send Pins from your backend, workflow tool or agent.

curl -X POST https://api.ampost.io/api/posts \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer amp_live_YOUR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "targets": [{ "platforms": ["pinterest"] }],
    "text": "Five desk setups for small spaces.",
    "linkUrl": "https://example.com/desk-setups",
    "media": [{
      "url": "https://cdn.example.com/desk.jpg",
      "type": "image",
      "altText": "A small desk by a window"
    }],
    "options": { "pinterest": { "title": "Small desk setups" } },
    "publishNow": true
  }'

Pinterest-specific caveats

What developers should know before integrating

Every Pin needs media: one image, 2 to 5 images, or one video. Images and video cannot be mixed.

Pinterest has no comments in its API, so there is no first comment.

An account without a default board can still post when each post names a board.

Pinterest has no revoke endpoint. After disconnecting, the user removes Ampost in Pinterest's settings.

Build path

Move from Pinterest proof of concept to production

Connect a test account, pick its board, create a first Pin and open the link from platformPosts[].publishedUrl.

GET /api/accounts/{accountId}/boards lists the boards; an account without a default board shows the BOARD_NOT_SELECTED health warning until you pick one.

FAQ

Common questions about Pinterest API integration

Which board do Pins go to?

The account's default board, unless the post sets `options.pinterest.boardId`. Pick the default with `PATCH /api/accounts/{accountId}/board`, the `accounts_set_board` MCP tool, or in the dashboard.

Can I post video Pins?

Yes. Send one video. The post stays `processing` while Pinterest processes it, then the Pin is created.

Can I schedule Pins?

Yes. Send a future `scheduledFor`; Ampost stores the media and creates the Pin at that time.
